FAQs:

Frequently Asked Questions about Translation in Boston

  • How much does it cost to translate a legal document such as a divorce decree from Colombia? The national average is around $0.14 to $0.18 per word, but we try to stay around $0.10 per word, unless there are complex formatting considerations. We are the only translation service in Boston that publishes rates of our most common documents.
  • What does cost for a certified birth certificate translation for USCIS?  $54, unless your document needs to be notarized for a US Passport application.
  • Is a notarized translation the same as a certified translation? No; for a US Passport Application, your translation needs to be notarized. If it is for USCIS, it just needs to be certified, which we provide. Typically, it is $9 for the third party notary service.
  • Can you translate my driver’s license for the RMV, that is, the Registry of Motor Vehicles? Yes, we translate for the RMV all the time and always include the required form: Translating into English of a Foreign Driver License.
  • How much does certified translation cost? It’s included. We certify translations for no cost when necessary.
  • Where can I get a certified translation near me? We can translate your documents even if we are not near as we do not need the original document. We have certified translators in Boston, as well as interpreters and certified translators Lawrence. However, if you are applying for citizenship, naturalization or another form of immigration, we can handle your request for translation from any location, even if not near.
  • Are you an official translator, that is, do you provide official translations? Yes, our translations are considered to be official and certified, so they are valid for all courts, government agencies and many other requesting parties. We provide certified, professional translation services in Boston and beyond. We also offer official, notarized and certified translation services from Portuguese to English, French to English and Italian to English. Most translations are completed in 24 hours or less.
  • What is good price to translate a background check, marriage certificate or birth certificate? Many translators will advertise $25 to $30 per page, but their definition of a page is 200 words or less, so the average birth certificate can cost $50 to $60 or more. If hard-copies are needed, the rate can increase. We provide certified electronic copies and mail hard copies for $54. There is another translation service in Boston that charges over $100 and they advertise a lower rate. We always keep our prices, rates, fees and total cost available to see.
  • Can I drop off the document at your office. Yes and no. We don’t need the originals in order to complete a certified translation, and we are not in the office all day, so please call, and we can schedule an appointment. Everything can be handled electronically if submitting using for Citizenship and Naturalization.
  • How much does it cost to translate an employee handbook to Spanish? The national average for handbook or employee manual translation is around $0.15 per word, unless machine (computer generated) translation is used. We, on the other hand, translate using professional translators and keep the rate at or below $0.10 in most cases. We have translated employee handbooks for many, many employers in Boston.
  • How much is does computer aided or AI translation cost? Very little if not free; however, this type of translation is not certified or very accurate. We do not use or endorse the use of translation software or AI translation.
  • How much does it cost to translate my FBI Background Check for a Spanish Visa at the Consulate of Spain in Boston? It is $69 to translate the fingerprint submission, and $99 for sworn Spanish translation approved by the government of Spain.
  • How long does a certified translation take? We can speak for others, but we translate most documents in 24 hours or less, unless they are over ten to fifteen pages. We are the only translation service in Boston that provides 24 hour service.
  • Can I translate my own birth certificate for USCIS? In the past, yes, but the government now stipulates that the translation must be completed by a professional translator and provide a signed translator’s affidavit on company letterhead. Also, the translator cannot be related to the applicant, although it is not stipulated how closely the translator can or cannot be related to the person applying for citizenship or another form of permanent or temporary status.
  • Do you translate from French? Yes, we see birth certificates and marriage certificates all the time from Haiti, Ivory Coast, Togo, Morocco, Senegal, Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, the Congo, Mauritania, Cameroon, Mali, France and Canada.
  • I have a bilingual birth certificate from Puerto Rico (or Montreal), does it need to be translated? You would think not, but it really depends on who is requesting it. Most of time, schools, colleges, and employers are okay with bilingual versions of vital records; however, DMV offices, government agencies and courts like to see the translated version.
  • What if I find an error, mistake or typo in my translation, can it be fixed? Of course — mistakes happen. We have a two-stage process to avoid issues, but we do see a lot of handwritten and typed documents with smudges that are difficult to read, so if we make a mistake or something is not correct in the completed translation, just let us know. We always stand behind our work and want to make sure your document is accurate. We try to complete most updates within an hour or less.

I am part of an online pre-employment testing company. We had a need (and often still do) for an extremely large amount of translating work to be completed. We found Southeast Spanish, worked out a scope of work, and were able to load the information exactly when they said it would be available. The pricing is more than reasonable and I would recommend this company to everyone. On more than several occasions, I found more information that needed to be translated fast. Dan always responds quickly and, many times, has the project completed for me before I am ready to get it back!A couple of times I tried to use Google Translate,..... Beware of that. When you translate verbatim, and then present it to a person with Spanish as their native language, you may come out sounding like a grade school student. Google translation is a program that doesn't understand peculiarities that are in every language. Very handy for a word or two, but not for much more than that.

Had several personal documents translated (birth certificate and marriage certificate for USCIS and the National Visa Center), and my expectations were exceeded, to say the least. I then recommended Southeast Spanish to my employer (regional manufacturing facility), and they had several OSHA flyers, new-hire paperwork and other employee documents translated from English to Spanish. Just like me, they were very, very impressed with the high level of professionalism, fast turn-around time, and overall experience. Six stars! (Really, really loved it!)
